Thank you for booking your stay at Dream House.
Dream House is both an accommodation and an artwork by Marina Abramović. Please ensure that you read the terms and conditions of your stay carefully as some of them may be unusual or unique.

Dream House is an artwork

Dream House is an artwork by Marina Abramović that is open to accommodate people to stay overnight. Please note that we may ask you to cover repair costs in case of any damage to the house and/or its fixtures that are caused by you.

House rules

A caretaker works at the Dream House during the daytime but no members will be staying in the house after the check-in has completed. Plates and bowls and other amenities are free for guests to use. Please clean and tidy up everything after use. Please look after your belongings and check that the doors and windows are closed during the night. Dream House does not take any responsibility or liability for any loss of your valuables during your stay.

Payment of the accommodation fee

We only accept credit card payment in advance.

Room

In principle each room accommodates one person. In case you make booking for more than four people you can share a room with two people although there are only four “beds for dreaming a dream”. If booking more than five people, you may use futons (Japanese-style bedding) on the floor next to the bed.

Bathing

There is a room called “purification room” with two cooper bath tabs with crystal pillows and one of them is prepared for bathing with herbs. Please note that there are no amenities such as shampoos and soaps. You may like to stop by at the Matsunoyama Onsen,hot spring district, known as one of the top three medicinal hot springs in Japan, located just before you arrive at Dream House.

Telephone

In accordance with the concept of the artwork set out by the artist, Dream House doesn’t have a landline phone. Please be informed that mobile phones may have limited connectivity in this remote mountainous region.

Non-smoking

Dream House is smoke-free. Please use the designated space outside the building should you wish to smoke.

Access, Check-in & Check-out, Meals, Bath

A: Dream House has been managed by local people according to the concept of the artwork defined by the artist . We therefore ask every customer to ensure to check-in between 17:00 and 18:00. Please kindly plan your visit so that you will be in time for the check-in.

A: Access
There is a designated parking space for up to eight cars within two minutes walk from Dream House.
Please be aware of uneven surface with pebbles when parking. Please note that you are not allowed to park a car within the site of Dream House.

A: A It will take approximately 25 min and cost approximately JPY4000 from Matsudai station on Hokuetsu Kyuko Line.

A: There are several restaurants in Matsunoyama Onsen. (It is about a 20 minute walk)

A: There is a refrigerator, microwave, simple electromagnetic cooker, rice cooker, toaster, electric pot, flying pan and sauce pan, and plates & bowls. You are not allowed to use gas cartridge stove nor hotplate. We have salt and shoyu (soy sauce) in the refrigerator but please bring anything you would need by yourself.

A: “Purifying room” in Dream House is equipped with two bathtubs, one for cleaning your body by taking shower and the other for taking a herbal bus. As these are artworks we don’t supply shampoo and soap. We would recommend you to visit and take Matsunoyama Onsen, one of the best three medicinal Onsens in Japan before you visit Dream House.

A: Our staff members will leave the house after check-in. We will leave the key to the house to you and you may go out by rocking the door.

A: Please notify staff member at check-in if you wish to check out earlier than set time.

Price, Booking

A: Please feel free to use the set of futon, quilt and sheet that are kept in the closet in each room.

A: The special suit for dreaming that you will put on will function as a sleeping bag. Put the suite (puffed with feathers in winter) on top of the white all-in-one and rest your head on the stone-pillow. You will then write down the dream you will have had on the “Dream Book”

A: You may ware yukata instead that was chosen by the artist.

A: Please bring your own toiletry except for bath towel, hand towel and tea bags.

As Dream House is located in the mountainous area, it can get colder in the morning and afternoon than it is said in the forecast. We would recommend you to bring extra layer(s), especially in the spring and autumn in order to respond to changeable weather.
